New England has lost huge amounts of electrical generating capacity since last year, mostly through the retirement of Vermont Yankee and various coal plants. It has added some solar facilities but solar still makes up less than 1 percent of its generating capacity. Nuclear still provides 12 percent of its electricity through the operation of Seabrook and Pilgrim Reactors. Natural gas now provides 41 percent of its electricity, even though no new gas pipelines have been added.
