Dr. Ernest Moniz has been confirmed in an overwhelming show of support by the full Senate, 97 to 0, as the new Secretary of Energy, succeeding Steven Chu to become the 13th Energy Secretary in the Department of Energy's (DOE) history. His strong advocacy in the areas of technology and innovation are timely for the electric power industry. At the DOE's helm, Moniz will be responsible for implementing President Obama's energy policy, including overseeing investments in clean energy, reducing the nation's dependence on foreign oil, working to address the global climate crisis, and helping to create millions of new jobs, as well as the having full authority to decide what role domestically-fracked gas will play in the nation's energy future.
